Corte Madera
The town of Corte Madera may be small, but its charm and stunning location make it a big attraction. It’s located at the foot of legendary Mount Tamalpais, and right at the intersection of San Francisco Bay and Corte Madera Creek. Wherever you roam here, beautiful views of the bay and pastoral hillsides are never far off.
Corte Madera offers more than beautiful California scenery––it’s home to two of Marin County’s finest outdoor shopping centers—The Town Center and The Village at Corte Madera. Both destination centers have a variety of boutiques and restaurants. The downtown area also has its share of outstanding California restaurants, including Marin Joe’s, a Marin County institution for fifty years.
Nature lovers will find plenty to enjoy here, too. Birdwatchers flock to the Corte Madera Ecological Reserve, which provides feeding and nesting areas for migrating meadowlarks, great egrets, snowy egrets, avocets, and sandpipers.
Just north of The Village Shopping Center is Shorebird Marsh, a thirty-one-acre wildlife habitat, also a prime spot for bird watching. And for hikers, at the southeastern edge of town, you’ll find the Ring Mountain Preserve, a gorgeous open space overlooking the San Francisco Bay with wide-open hiking trails and views of San Francisco.
