MCVB Scope of Services
The Marin Convention & Visitors Bureau (MCVB) is a private 501(c)-6 organization funded by a voluntary Business Improvement District (BID). The primary purpose of the MCVB is to promote Marin County as an overnight destination through marketing programs, collateral materials, trade missions, and partnership with other industry-related organizations. The organizations mission is to develop a sustainable visitor base to Marin County, enhance the local economies, and protect the natural resources through responsible promotion.
The MCVB represents / promotes five lodging communities within Marin: Corte Madera, Larkspur, Mill Valley, Novato, and San Rafael. Also included is the Lodge at Tiburon and a handful of coastal Marin lodging properties in the unincorporated area of Marin County.
This organization offers a wide range of services to both visitors and tourism industry professionals, locally, regionally, national and international. The services are designed to enhance the visitor experience, foster collaboration within the industry, and drive tourism growth within Marin County. These services include:
- Promoting Marin County, California as an overnight destination to potential visitors. This includes digital marketing campaigns, advertising, participating in trade shows and travel events.
- Providing visitor information on Marin County on www.visitMarin.org on Where to Stay, Where to Meet, Things to See and Do, Local Resources, Where to Film, and much more.
- Providing visitor information and direct referrals on Marin County from the local visitor center, including brochures, travel guides, maps and other resources, as well as providing direct referrals to event and meeting planners, tourism industry professionals, the media and the State of CA’s Visitors Bureau.
- The MCVB regularly attends industry-related travel events, conferences, trade shows, and other activities that promote Marin County as an overnight destination to potential clients interested in the Greater Bay Area.
- The MCVB also works extensively with Visit California, meeting planners, travel writers, and related resources on the organization of FAM tours, group meeting venues, regional and national promoting opportunities, as well as supporting and marketing the local communities whose events that have the potential to attract overnight visitors to the area.

- Local Expertise and Visitor Referrals: The MCVB provides in-depth knowledge on Marin County, including its attractions, destinations, amenities and unique offerings…all to assist the visitors with making informed decisions and recommendations for Marin County meetings, events, programs, conferences, and other related activities. The MCVB also maintains the Marin County Film Liaison Office which works with potential commercial and film industry representatives to streamline the time needed while filming a commercial or promotional event within the County.
- Marketing Support: The MCVB continually markets and promotes Marin lodging properties / hotels as a central destination for all overnight activities within the area. The organization also assists with the facilitation of pre-existing hotel promotions, networking and media opportunities, as well as creating new marketing programs within the primary Marin travel market and other secondary markets within the state of California and the surrounding states.
- Event Support: The MCVB works with s meeting planners, conference coordinators, travel specialists, group tour writers and planners, and other resources as needed to ensure a successful event within Marin County.
- Digital and Social Media Interaction and Promotions: The MCVB has a dedicated social media consultant to leverage all available digital resources to keep Marin County relevant within the ever-changing social media platforms. The MCVB is active on Facebook, Instagram, Linked-In, Tic-Toc, and other social venues to promote Marin County as a visitors and meeting destination.
