The region’s staggering beauty, abundance of wildlife and unique culture make it the perfect destination year-round for days of relaxation and discovery.

Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or a winter escape, these unique accommodations put you front and center on Marin’s ocean side.

 

Cottages

Craving a cozy cottage for the weekend? You’re in luck because Marin’s ocean side has several rooms with a view.

If privacy is what you seek, it’s privacy you’ll get. A stay at AppleGarden Cottage is as picturesque as it is serene. It’s located on a private working farm outside the charming town of Tomales. Surrounded by an organic apple orchard and lush vegetable gardens, you might find it tough to leave your newfound space. Despite its off-the-beaten-path feel, AppleGarden is actually very accessible to nearby attractions, whether exploring wine country or driving along Highway 1.

 

Also in Tomales Bay is Nick’s Cove Restaurant, Oyster Bar and Cottages. While each of Nick’s 12 cottages feels very private, the luxurious decor gives a nice modern touch. Since there’s a restaurant and bar at Nick’s, many guests spend ample time just relaxing on site. That said, West Marin’s top tourist attractions are a short drive away. Bear Valley Cottage is a 35-mile drive from San Francisco and about 50 miles from Napa, should you be hitting the vineyards during your stay. While it feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere, the inn is a jumping point for outdoor excursions. The Visitor Center at Point Reyes National Seashore is half a mile away, not to mention trails of every kind: hiking, biking and horseback riding.

 

For travelers looking for a taste of the simple life, the Inn at Roundstone Farm fills that need in more ways than one. Not only will you feel at one with nature, but you’ll indulge in fresh breakfasts, too. The property boasts five guestrooms, making for a very personalized stay. Nature reigns supreme here, from rolling hills and ponds to panoramic views of Mount Wittenberg and Inverness Ridge to boot. You may lose track of time at Roundstone, but that’s all part of the inn’s historic charm.

 

Bed-and-Breakfasts

For a home-away-from-home feel, a B&B is a must, especially these top selections.

Although technically not listed as a B&B, Straus Home Ranch has a way of making guests feel like they’re part of the family. The 150-year-old farmhouse has been nicely renovated and furnished, giving it a touch of modern flair. That, plus the eucalyptus and cypress trees swaying in the wind and the 160 acres of organic pastures, makes for quite the backdrop. Ideal for couples looking for some alone time, the house includes a romantic garden and two porches. There’s even a small beach steps away.
