There are few things more authentic to California than craft beer. It’s refreshing, has great body and style, and celebrates the unique passions of each individual brewer.

With a love for local ingredients, hard work and inspired vision, California craft beer consistently ranks highest at both national and international competitions.

Learning about the ingredients, processes and special techniques that drive these award-winning flavors is just as important (and fun) as drinking the beer. Coupled with friends, great food and music, and you’ve got yourself a party. Returning June 20 to Marin County, the California Beer Festival delivers just that.

Experience craft beer paradise

Just a few miles north of San Francisco, the California Beer Festival transforms Stafford Lake Park in Novato into a beer garden paradise. From 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. guests will discover more to love about the growing craft movement while sampling over 70 craft beers from participating breweries.

The ticket price also includes a full afternoon of live entertainment by San Francisco Bay Area’s favorite cover band, Wonderbread5. Other musical local talent includes IrieFuse and The Grain.

Stay fueled up and grab a bite to eat at one of several food vendors serving favorites like garlic french fries, hot wings, sausages and more. The California Beer Festival is a great opportunity to expand beer horizons, rub elbows with industry experts and sample the craft flavors of Marin Country.

Enjoy more beer at a local brewhouse

With San Francisco’s Anchor Brewing known as the father of the craft beer movement, the Bay Area’s brew history dates back as far as the California Gold Rush.

Marin Brewing Co. in Larkspur is the oldest microbrewery in Marin. In 1989, the same year Craig Tasley and Brendan Moylan opened the brewery, Marin Brewing Co. won its first medal at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver. Brewmaster Arne Johnson continues to impress with all-natural, high-quality ales brewed on site.

The classic pub-style restaurant features complementary standards like fish & chips and bangers & mash. Patrons can pull up a seat at the bar or enjoy the panoramic views on the outdoor patio. The success of the brewery has grown into the community through philanthropy and community-based initiatives — further solidifying the brewery’s place in the California beer scene and the hearts of local beer enthusiasts.

For additional craft flavors in a family-friendly setting, visit BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse in San Rafael. BJ’s offers an expansive lunch and dinner menu, as well as several house-made brews that change throughout the year. BJ’s craft beers span several techniques and flavor profiles, delivering a brew for just about everyone. From the pale and malty Brewhouse Blonde to the award-winning dark-chocolate PM Porter, BJ’s is a great spot for a quick craft beer escape in Marin with friends or family.

Don’t miss a chance to experience more of the craft beer scene in Marin on your visit to the California Beer Festival this June. The gates open at 12:30 p.m. and beer tasting begins at 1 p.m. Regular tickets are $50 and VIP Early Bird Experience tickets are available for $70. For designated drivers, the California Beer Festival offers a special $25 ticket, which includes a free meal from any food vendor and bottled water with access to live entertainment.
