Marin restaurants and other dining establishments throughout California are celebrating California Restaurant Month in January. Particularly noteworthy among Marin participants are several restaurants that are acclaimed for their "farm to fork" approach to innovative regional cuisine. We list a few of these to visit during January's month-long culinary event.

Taste Kitchen & Table, Fairfax. Fairfax’s new eat-in or take-away, full-service bakery and café brings a bounty of handcrafted, nutritious, and delicious food choices. Taste offers breakfast, lunch, meals to go, healthy snacks, special pop-up dinner nights, assorted pastries, freshly baked breads, fresh juices and more. Local food artisan partners provide organic, seasonal, fresh ingredients direct from their farms. Especially popular are the soft buttery croissants (chocolate or ham and cheese), sticky buns, breakfast croissants with eggs and bacon, and chai made from scratch.

Farmshop at Marin Country Mart, Larkspur. A stone’s throw from the Larkspur Landing ferry dock, Farmshop offers up a full-flavored experience. Feast on Five Dot Ranch beef ribeye with smashed baby yams, roasted hen of the woods mushrooms, blistered spring onions and salsa criolla. Or try the Half Moon Bay halibut with Strong Arm Farm braised ocean greens, roasted baby carrots, abalone mushrooms and gomasio. Also not to miss are Farmshop's wood-fired pizzas with California tomatoes, Ramini mozzarella di bufala, basil, parmesan, olive oil and sea salt or topped with Fatted Calf Guanciale and Asiago, stinging nettles and chili flakes. Their cheese plates are exceptional and include local favorites such as Tomme Dolce goat cheese from Petaluma's Andante Dairy, Red Hawk from Point Reyes Station's Cowgirl Creamery, and Baserri raw sheep cheese from Tomales' Barinaga ranch.

Vin Antico, San Rafael.  Featuring stone oven baked flat breads, handmade pasta, organic meats, sustainable fish and dishes that meld the familiar with the new. Vin Antico's wine list of artisan, site specific wines artfully complements their farm to table-inspired cuisine. Housed in an intimate, beautiful, antique brick building, the kitchen is open to the dining room and, for a real up-close foodie experience, chef's counter seating is also available.
